Salford police officers ‘threatened with snake’ in Swinton

Two Salford police officers were threatened with a python after attending a call about a concern for the welfare of a man in Swinton.

GMP Salford West posted on Facebook this afternoon: “Whilst attending an address responding to a concern for welfare in Swinton PC Jameson & PC Chisnall were threatened by a male trying to set a Python on them!

“After dealing with Monty, officers escorted the male to hospital under the mental health act. #‎hisss‬-terical”.

GMP Salford West, whose page has over 8,900 likes, came under some criticism for the Facebook post.

One posted: “Oh yeah, nice one GMP Salford West. Of course Mental Heath issues are hysterical. This status should be removed it’s shameful.”

Another wrote: “Do you not think that’s inappropriate if he’s got mental health issues! Making a joke at his expense. Disgusting.”

GMP Salford West responded: “We do not make fun out of mental health; we merely want to share some of the strange situations that our officers find themselves in day to day.”

In 2013 GMP Cadishead and Irlam’s Facebook page made the national papers after officers were reprimanded for ‘inappropriate’ posts made in jest advising anyone who found a missile in their garden not to contact police but instead to “send it back to Pyongyang”.

The following day popular local officers on the page joked that “The Glorious Leader didn’t vapourise us overnight…unless he did and I’m in the afterlife and that would be depressing as I’m still wearing a Police uniform.”
