Monton Voices Choir to premiere two new carols this Saturday

Monton Voices Choir fresh from their success at the switching on of the Monton Christmas Lights and a performance last Sunday when they participated in a carol concert for the Friends of Salford Museum and Art Gallery at Peel Park are heading for fresher pastures.

This Saturday, 12 December, the choir will be singing at St Paul’s Church, Monton at 7.30pm when they will be performing two new carols written by members of the choir, Mickey Dale and Brennan Wilson.

Mickey a 17 year old student will be performing, ‘Comes the Night’ a moving and melodic number based on a poem by the Liverpool poet, Roger McGough.

Brennan who is a retired consultant radiologist from Monton will be performing his new piece, entitled, ‘And is it True’ based on a poem by John Betjeman, described as being, ‘haunting’ by Lynda Stringer the choirs leader.

The choir has been in existence since 2002 and perform both locally and nationally, recently having performed at the Annual National Street Choir Festival in Whitby this summer.

They are so excited with these two new pieces of music, that they are planning to put together a bid for Art’s Council funding to develop and stage a community event next year, using original work as well as other well known songs from the musicals.

Judy Kent is their musical director and she has had extensive television and recording experience, including singing solo with the BBC Philharmonic and the Halle Orchestra.
