Corrie star Andy Whyment special guest at Swinton party for learning disabled kids

Soap star star Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk in Coronation Street, is to bang out the tunes at a Christmas party in Swinton for young adults with learning disabilities.

On Thursday 10 December at the Swinton Royal British Legion, Salford-based social care firm Living Ambitions will celebrate their year with a DJ, food and live entertainment from cabaret singer Tony Dee.

Around 80-100 people, including families and support workers, are expected to join in the fun.

And Andy Whyment, who is giving up his time for free, is due to perform a string of hits including Mustang Sally, with the young adults on backing vocals.

Living Ambitions is a company close to Andy’s heart as his dad, Fred, has worked as a support worker with them for the past 10 years.

Operations Manager Jodie Allen Cawley told SalfordOnline.com: “It’s a great time of year for everyone to get together, let their hair down and have fun.

“What’s special about this event is that the people we support have planned the entire thing.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for them, made all the more special with Andy making time to perform”

Nicole, who attends social care sessions in Salford with the Ambitions Group said: “I’ve enjoyed organising this event and working with like-minded people. I feel like I’m learning new things every day that I think will benefit me in the future.”

As the Ambitions Group, around 15 young people age 17-24 take part in regular support sessions in Salford, like timebanking, skills building and even project management.

By January 2016, the Ambitions Group hope to incorporate as a social enterprise to help out local groups with painting alleyways, clearing rubbish from streets and any other good deeds.
