Salford City saw their FA Cup dream in tatters as they lost to Hartlepool United at Victoria Park.
Two extra-time goals by Scott Fenwick in the 97th minute, and Mikael Mandron, with just seconds to spare on the clock, saw the Pools through to the Third Round of the competition.
Salford had confidence going into the replay and never looked second-best to the League Two outfit, hitting 33 shots in a stellar performance which could have gone either way.
It was a combative atmosphere with early bookings for Pools’ Carl Magnay and Matthew Bates but Salford settled into some good football regardless.
At the start of the second half with honours even, Salford came out like a train, peppering the Hartlepool box with crosses.
Lewis Hardcastle had two attempts just minutes between them, followed by James Poole and a Chris Lynch header, with Carson in the Pools’ goal wondering how Salford hadn’t scored.
The work-rate was incredible yet again from Anthony Johnson’s side and they dominated for 75 minutes without the luck of a result.
Seven minutes into extra-time at Victoria Park Rhys Oates, who scored the penalty in the first leg that forced this replay, swung in a cross which was met by Scott Fenwick, who planted a header past a despairing Jay Lynch.
Just as Salford looked to be back in the game, as the 120th minute approached Mikael Mandron swung his left boot and connected with a Brad Walker cross to send Pools into FA Cup dreamland.
On Twitter, fans from all side of the game were quick to praise the Moor Lane side.
#FACup – @SalfordCityFC applauded off by all 4 corners of the ground. Heads up @amjonno and the lads, back to business in the league.
