Armed officers blocked off a section of Langworthy Road in Salford this afternoon.
Cars and public transport were being turned around at the scene, near Emmanuel Church.
At around 2.45pm today four marked police cars, along with two unmarked vehicles, swooped on four suspects in a silver Vauxhall Corsa.
Reports from the scene suggest that two men in hooded tops were handcuffed.
The car was searched and all of the suspects were released.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “This activity is related to an ongoing police operation.”
Police would not confirm any more details, nor the exact reason for the arrests.
Langworthy Road has since re-opened to traffic.
