Police hunt ‘remorseful’ robber after Salford confectioners robbed at knifepoint

Police are hunting a remorseful robber who apologised profusely while holding up a confectioners at knifepoint in Salford.

At around 7.50am on Thursday 28 January 2016, a man entered Martin Swiss Confectioners on Eccles Old Road, Salford, armed with a small knife and a hammer.

He approached the till where two female staff members were stood and told them he wanted money from the safe.

They took him to the safe but were unable to open it, so instead he grabbed money from the tills before saying ‘I’m sorry I’ve done your head in girls’ and running out the door.

In total the man stole about £60.

The offender is described as a white man in his 30s with very pale skin, slim build, around 5ft 7in tall with a slightly sunken face. He spoke with a Salford accent.

He was wearing a waterproof jacket pulled over the bottom half of his face, black gloves, black tracksuit trousers and black trainers.

Detective Constable Andrew Quinn said: “The one thing that stood out for both witnesses was how apologetic the male was during and after the robbery.

“However, despite repeatedly apologising, he still went through with the theft so he can’t have been that remorseful.

“We know that the offender was seen soon after the robbery by witnesses outside Costcutter wearing a different coat and riding a bike towards Eccles.

“If you have any information which may assist the investigation, or were in the area at the time, please call police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
