Man, 21, detained after threatening to jump from Eccles M602 motorway bridge


A man was rescued from a motorway bridge over the M602 in Eccles after threatening to jump to his death.

Police and emergency services were called to the motorway footbridge on Wellington Road, Eccles at 3am today, Wednesday 24 February.

They found a 21-year-old man standing on the glass roof of the bridge, some 50ft above the carraigeway.

Police negotiators were called and in spent three hours talking the man down.

Once safe, the man was taken to Salford Royal hospital where he was detained under Section 138 of the Mental Health Act.

The scene was cleared by 6am.
