Delivery jobs boom promised as Deliveroo launches in Salford

On-demand restaurant delivery service Deliveroo has launched in Salford.

The London-based start-up began trading in 2013 and has expanded nationwide over the past three years.

Hundreds of jobs are expected to be created for delivery drivers in the city over the next 12 months.

The business is continuing to rollout in new areas even after co-founder Greg Orlowski, an American computer programmer, resigned as a director last month.

Deliveroo announced today that it had also launched its service in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

In a press statement the firm said: “Deliveroo has seen its hyper-local approach to food delivery service thrive in areas with high population density and quality restaurants, making Salford and Wilmslow ideal new zones for the service.

“The launch means the hungry residents of Salford and Wilmslow can now get food from their most loved local restaurants restaurants, including CAU, Wagamama, Gusto, and Yara, delivered to their door in 30 minutes for a £2.50 extra delivery fee.

Deliveroo report a 25% month-on-month growth since 2013, with daily orders growing tenfold since January 2015.

It currently operates in 32 towns and cities across the UK.

Caroline Hazlehurst, General Manager of Deliveroo, said: “We’ve seen a big appetite for Deliveroo in Manchester so far – we’re excited to be working with even more great restaurants in the area, and to be serving the hungry people of Salford and Wilmslow.

“Expanding our operations in Greater Manchester is a natural next step in our mission to offer the highest quality food delivery service in the UK.”

Salford is not yet listed on Deliveroo’s website but job opportunities are expected to be available shortly.
