Salford store manager to star in tonight’s ITV Bargain Shop Wars

Paula Garrity, 46, from Salford, is set to become a star of the small screen after featuring in a new six-part ITV1 series, Bargain Shop Wars.

Paula is store manager at ultra-budget fashion outlet PEP&CO in Salford Shopping Centre, which opened last August.

She has worked in retail for more than 30 years.

Paula and her colleague Amanda Healey star in the episode entitled ‘The Good, the Bad & the Thrifty’, which will broadcast on ITV1 on Thursday 21 April at 8.30pm.

In the episode the business launches its first ever sale with prices slashed up to 70%.

The budget fashion store sells garments from £1 and the vast majority of its stock is sold for under £10.

Ex-Asda CEO Andy Bond launched PEP&CO in 2015 with £20 million backing from South African retail group Pepkor.

He stated the business had the aim to “replicate in fashion the success of discounters such as Aldi and Poundland”.

The series will go behind the scenes in to how the retailer launched 50 stores in just over 50 days last summer.

The show has been made by production company Crackit North, the same people who brought Pound Shop Wars to our screens.

In Salford, Paula is renowned for being PEP&CO’s ‘super-seller’ but will she be able to lure customers away from their bargain retail rivals?

Paula said: “We’re so excited to be part of this TV show, and it’s great to see Salford having the national spotlight it deserves.

“Everyone at the store would like to say thank you to our customers and the town for welcoming us into the community, so make sure you tune in as you may see some familiar faces!”

Adrian Mountford, PEP&CO managing director, added: “Salford was one of the select few locations to start our journey in, as we felt it was the right place for us.

“It’s the people who really make the business what it is, and Paula and her Salford team really do go the extra mile.”
