Nicole’s artwork “What Salford means to me” wins top prize

A schoolgirl in Salford has coloured her way to the top and been crowned the winner of a local art competition conducted by Knight Knox and Fortis Developments.

Nicole Blecharz, aged nine, from St Thomas of Canterbury R. C. School in Salford, scooped the prize, beating off stiff competition from a number of other schoolchildren in the area.

She will see her artwork installed in an upcoming residential development and has won £50 worth of art materials, along with a £500 crafts bundle for her school.

Entrants were asked to produce artwork under the title ‘What Salford means to me’. The winning artwork shows that Salford means a lot to Nicole, particularly in regards to community activities like swimming, attending church and going to Scouts.

It will be transformed into a mural by a local artist and installed in the lobby area of Adelphi Wharf – Fortis Developments’ £75 million flagship residential scheme in Salford.

The gifts were presented to Nicole by representatives from Fortis Developments and Knight Knox on the site of Adelphi Wharf, with her proud teacher, Tracy Robinson, and her classmates watching on.

Tracy said: “We’re thrilled that Nicole has won the competition! Her picture really is charming and perfectly captures Salford and what it means to grow up here. The art materials will certainly be put to good use and we can’t wait to see the artwork take pride of place in the new building.”
