Update: 33-year-old man shot in chest as he walked down Little Hulton street

A man gunned down in the street in Little Hulton has a severe gunshot wound to the chest, police have revealed.

The 33-year-old victim was walking down Mill Hill, a small residential road off Captain’s Fold Road, at around 9.25pm last night, Saturday 4 June.

He was approached by the shooter, who is assumed to have fired a gun blast at his torso and fled.

The man is believed to have been walking alone, although little more is known at this stage.

Police are still carrying out enquiries throughout Little Hulton and surrounding areas tonight.

The victim was last night in intensive care in hospital.

Now his condition has been downgraded from ‘critical’ to ‘stable’, doctors have confirmed to police.

Neighbours on Mill Hill rushed to the man’s aid in the moments after the shooting.

Some described seeing him bleeding heavily on the ground, while others said they had got their children to safety after hearing the loud popping sound of a gunshot.

When SalfordOnline.com broke the news last night it was just minutes after the shooting and the man’s condition was not known.

He was rushed to hospital where he remains, although his condition has improved since late yesterday evening.

Detective Superintendent Emily Higham said: “An investigation into this incident has been launched but I would like to stress that enquiries are at a very early stage.

“We have dedicated extra patrols to Salford to try and prevent further incidents from taking place and also offer reassurance to the community that incidents like this will not be tolerated.

“I would urge the local community to come forward if they saw or heard anything in their area at the time of the incidents to get in touch as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9403 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
