Watch: Backyard ideas for kids as temperatures set to rise next week

Another spot of great sunny and hot weather is forecast to hit the country this weekend and into next week. And with kids on summer holidays it’s a great time to get them off the couch and out into the glorious sunshine. So watch our videos from Youtube gardeners and CBBC Blue Peter regulars ‘the Skinny Jean Gardeners’ for some great activities to get your kids doing in the backyard

A new survey released shows the popularity of playing outside even during the summer holidays is in decline.

With obstacles to outside play including parents being unwilling to let their children get mucky or to engage in creative play outside without constant adult supervision, Homebase has launched a new campaign, ‘Room to Grow’ to inspire kids to put down their phones and iPad’s and get into the garden this summer.

The Skinny Jean Gardeners, who have their own YouTube channel and are regulars on CBBC’s Blue Peter are supporting the campaign and have created a series of inspirational and how-to videos, including how-to build a tee-pee and how-to paint a plant pot using vegetables.

Watch the Skinny Jean Gardeners videos to be inspired this summer and give your children their own ‘Room to Grow’.
