‘Worst ever’ cannabis farm found in Eccles

A cannabis farm dubbed the ‘worst ever’ by local police has been busted in a business premises in Patricroft, Eccles.

Around 30 plants in varying states of distress were found on the first floor of a vacant building on Dudley Street in Patricroft.

The building owner was showing a prospective tenant at around 3.15pm on Friday 3 July when he discovered the setup and called in police.

Rather than being hooked up to a hydroponics rig, overhead lamps and room fans were tangled in a mass of wires and hanging precariously above the crop.

Local police called it a ‘dreadful’ effort by would-be criminals, quipping: “[They] should be ashamed. If you’re going to do it at least put in a little effort.”

Nevertheless, readers congratulated officers on Facebook for taking yet another harvest out of the hands of illegal growers before it hit the streets.

Anyone who suspects residential or industrial premises are being used for cannabis production should call Greater Manchester Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
