Stars out for Salford’s BreastFest this Saturday

Local woman Gail Kirkham, 51, was devastated when she was diagnosed with breast cancer on 11 September 2013 in what she calls her own 9/11 moment.

But Gail was determined to fight back and help raise as much money as possible for the One Stop Breast Clinic at Salford Royal Hospital.

This Saturday 11 July a team of TV celebs from Hollyoaks, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will take on 22 Salford lads who have each raised large amounts of cash for the charity for the right to play the game.

The match kicks off at 1.30pm at De La Salle playing fields on Lancaster Road in Salford with the doors opening at 10am and running until 11pm.

The day will see live music with over 30 bands playing on three stages, a funfair, carboot, market stalls, refreshments, licenced bar and more to be announced.

SalfordOnline.com spoke to Gail who said: “Since I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 I have become determined to raise as much money as possible for the incredible people at One Stop Breast Cancer Clinic who have looked after me.

“In the past I have always done charity work but now I am determined to raise awareness and money for the clinic, who really help people in Salford.

“Most recently I organised the Fifty Shades of Pink charity ball at De La Salle Club which raised several thousand pounds for the unit.

“One of the worst things about cancer is awaiting diagnosis after your initial tests, at the One Stop you get your results back within a week or 10 days which can help with the waiting period, which at other clinics can take weeks.

“I want the Salford community to come along and not only enjoy their day out but be made aware of what we a marvellous facility we have on our doorstep.”

Admission is £3 on the door and donations are always gratefully received.
