Wanted: Man who stole purse from elderly woman in Swinton Morrisons

Police have issued the picture of a man they want to speak to after a 72-year-old woman was cruelly robbed in a supermarket in Swinton, Salford.

At around 10.30am on Friday 26 June the pensioner was shopping in the Swinton Hall Road branch of Morrisons when a man approached her and swiped her purse from her bag.

A member of the public spotted what they thought was a theft and intervened.

The man threw the purse into the victim’s trolley before running out of the store.

The robbery caused outrage in the local community.

Police Constable Lee Cunliffe said: “I would ask anyone who may recognise this man to come forward and contact police as soon as possible.

“I would also make an appeal to the man himself to come forward so we can eliminate him from our enquiries.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 5976 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
