Paul Massey shot four times in Salford murder – police seek teen girl witness

Police are looking for a teenage witness who could hold the key to the murder of Paul Massey, the 55-year-old shot and killed in the driveway of his home in Clifton, Salford.

She is 16 or 17 years old, believed to be Asian, and of a slim build. She was stood at a bus stop on Manchester Road when the fatal shooting occurred.

A white man dressed in military-style camouflage clothing sprayed bullets from an automatic weapon at Mr Massey as he got out of his car outside his Manchester Road home at around 7.30pm on Sunday 26 July.

Police said he made a 999 call telling them: “I’ve been shot and I need help,” but despite emergency services racing to the address Paul died at the scene.

The results of a post-mortem confirmed Mr Massey was shot four times and died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

His murderer then ran off on foot down an alleyway near St Anne’s Church.

Police have now released a full description of the offender.

He is white, of slim build, and was wearing a hat, possibly fisherman style, a face covering, a green or khaki long-sleeved top and combat style trousers tucked into black, lace-up boots. He was carrying a black gun.

Detectives still have no clear motive for the murder and are again appealing to the community for help.

At a briefing yesterday the Tactical Commander for Salford and Trafford, Chief Superintendent Mary Doyle, said intelligence had been “unusually quiet” over Mr Massey’s death.

Police also want to speak to the owner of a silver or grey Volvo that turned left out of Church Walk away from the incident shortly afterwards.

Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Officers are working tirelessly to catch the person that did this and we will continue to offer support to Paul’s family at this distressing time.

“We believe this was a targeted attack on Paul and are still working to establish a motive for the murder.

“We are keen to speak to a girl who we believe is a potential witness to the shooting. She was stood at the bus stop on Manchester Road at the time of the shooting. She is described as about 16-17-years-old, Asian in appearance and of slim build. I would ask that she comes forward as she may have key information that can help our investigation.

We will continue to have officers in and around the area should any residents wish to come and talk to us or pass on any information they may have about this incident.

“I would urge anybody with information about who may be behind this to come forward.

“I understand that people may be reluctant to but I believe that someone out there knows who killed Paul and I want to stress that any information received will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call police on 0161 856 9775, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
