Salford bookies in ‘bomb-threat’ robbery


A man walked into a bookmakers on Church Street in Eccles this morning and handed staff a note which threatened to detonate a bomb if they didn’t give him cash.

William Hill in Eccles was closed by police this morning at around 9.50am on Monday 23 March.

The man’s accomplice kept watch outside while his partner walked up to the counter and demanded cash, telling terrified staff he had bomb in his bag.

The robbers stole money before fleeing through Eccles on foot.

The man who entered the shop is described as white, about 30, about 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, and was clean shaven. He was wearing a black waist-length jacket with a blue top underneath and the hood pulled up, a baseball cap, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers and was carrying a black holdall.

The man who waited outside the shop is described as white, between 5ft 7in and 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and was wearing a black waist-length jacket with the hood up, jeans and black trainers.

Detective Sergeant Peter Morris said: “A woman was confronted by a man claiming to have a bomb in his bag.

“Thankfully she wasn’t hurt, but she was understandably shaken by this traumatic ordeal.

“I would encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the descriptions of the men to get in touch with police.”
