Salford Choral Society Concert, Royal Northern College of Music, 7 November 2015

Salford Choral Society’s 2015/16 Season begins with Leonard Bernstein‘s Chichester Psalms, a magical blend of Biblical Hebrew verse and Christian choral tradition paired with Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light, an unorthodox Requiem that combines the liturgy of the Mass with beautiful English poetry. Although very different in style, both works are emotive depictions of peace that promise a magical evening.

Guest Conductor John Powell has been involved in music in Manchester for 40 years. He currently conducts the Festival Choir and the Phoenix Choir in Bolton and his own chamber group, the John Powell Singers, regularly heard on BBC Radio. He has been Musical Director of Tatton Singers since 2005.

Salford Choral Society are joined by soloists Charlotte Trepess (soprano), Kieron-Connor Valentine (counter-tenor) and Stuart Orme (baritone). Accompaniment is provided by Darius Battiwalla (organ), Roderick Barrand (piano), Ian Forgrieve (percussion) and Eira Lynn Jones (harp).
