New appeal one year since murder of Swinton dad Charlie Singh

Detectives investigating the armed robbery and fatal shooting of Swinton father-of-three Charlie Singh are appealing for more information to solve the case.

As he left work in Openshaw on 31 October 2014 Singh was shot in the stomach and chest and robbed of over £28,000 in takings.

His brother Tiggy, who will appear in front of press this Wednesday to launch the fresh appeal, tried to keep Charlie conscious until paramedics arrived but the 35-year-old sadly died later in hospital.

Police described Mr Singh as “a hard-working family man” who was killed in cold blood.

Despite a BBC Crimewatch appeal, a £25,000 reward for information and the below sketch of the suspected shooter police still need more information to convict those responsible.

Detectives believe Charlie’s killers arrived in a light-coloured Seat Leon and after confronting and firing at least two shots, got back in the car and drove off onto Park House Street towards Alan Turing Way.

A 30-year-old man who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder was released without charge.

A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to murder remains on bail.

In June two men aged 22 and 23 were arrested on suspicion of murder, conspiracy and armed robbery after raids in the Moss Side and Glossop areas.

Detectives revealed the same .45 calibre self-loading pistol was used to kill a second man, 26-year-old Kieran Mcgrath, in Ashton on Saturday 4 October.

It’s not though the same killer is responsible for both murders.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Over the past year, GMP have made three arrests, however this investigation is very much ongoing.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
