The Wellington pub in Irlams o’th Height, Salford saw its windows broken last night after it was attacked by two men who approached on a motorbike.
An earlier report published by this website suggested shots were fired from a gun; this has been denied by staff and police do not yet know the weapon used. The below article has been amended.
Police were called to the pub on Bolton Road at 8.50pm on Thursday 29 October.
Armed police were also scrambled to the scene, along with CID and Crime Scene Investigators.
Kath Rowcroft, landlady of the Wellington said: “It was a quiet night and we were stood there with around eight locals, having a quiet drink.
“Next thing we know there’s four loud bangs and we saw the windows crack, one, two, three, four.
“We thought it was fireworks but we didn’t know what had happened so we all got out of the way.
“We were all a bit startled but the police didn’t find any bullet casings and the windows weren’t even fully shattered.”
Pictures from the scene show the first pane of the double glazed windows broken.
No-one was hurt in the incident.
“Our customers laughed it off, in fact the pub stayed open,” Kath added.
It’s thought the men rode towards the pub via King Street, before getting off the vehicle and approaching the pub windows.
Forensics teams swept the area looking for the kind of ammunition that could have been used, but turned up no bullets.
It’s possible a gas-powered BB gun was used but this is not known at this stage.
The men are thought to have approached the Wellington Inn on Bolton Road from King Street, riding slowly past the pub.
A Crime Scene Investigation van remained outside the pub until the early hours of this morning.
An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.
Sources nearby at the time of the shooting were not sure of the motive behind the attack.
