Fog warning for rush-hour drivers as visibility drops

Low and dense fog is expected to cause travel delays throughout rush hour today.

Commuters and parents returning their children to school after the half-term break are urged to take extra care.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for fog until noon on Monday, with visibility as low as 100m at times.

Pinch points on the motorway network around Salford are expected to be affected, especially on the M60 approaching the Eccles M602/M62 interchange at Junction 12, and at Junction 15 for the Swinton interchange.

The North West Motorway police recommend drivers use their fog lights throughout the morning.

The Met Office’s Chief Forecasters says: “A slack, moist airmass lying across much of England will allow fog to readily form again on Sunday night, reducing visibility to less than 100 m at times.

“Fog will slowly lift and clear from many places through Monday.”
