Live wires exposed after coach hits telegraph pole in Monton

Police cordoned off a house in Monton after a coach crashed into a telegraph pole, leaving live wires dangling into a garden.

Officers were called to the scene, near the Fabric clothes store off Monton Road roundabout, at 3.10pm today, Friday 6 November.

The wooden pole has snapped at around 3 metres up, leaving live wires trailing into a nearby house.

It’s understood no passengers were aboard the Chesters Coach when the driver crashed, although this has yet to be confirmed.

No-one was reported injured in the collision.

BT engineers were called and considered the exposed wires dangerous enough to merit a safety cordon being erected.

There were also concerns that local schoolchildren leaving for the day could pass near the scene.

Monton Road was down to one lane in the immediate vicinity but it’s not thought the road will need to be closed.

A manager at Walkden-based Chesters Coaches Ltd told SalfordOnline.com: “We are awaiting our driver’s return to base, after which a full investigation will be launched.”
