Housing workers to take part in overnight Tweetathon

Housing workers will be giving a rare glimpse into what happens in Salford after dark during an overnight Twitter marathon.

Salix Homes, which owns more than 8,300 homes across central Salford, will be live tweeting during a 12-hour night shift to mark Housing Day – a national Tweetathon to showcase the work of the housing sector.

It’s the second year the housing association has taken part in an overnight Tweetathon after the inaugural initiative last year proved a real hit with the Twitterati.

This year Salix Homes chief executive Lee Sugden will be leading the Tweetathon live from the Salix Homes 1st Response control room, which monitors more than 400 CCTV cameras across the tower blocks in Salford.

The 1st Response Team also provides round-the-clock access to all housing services, carries out mobile patrols and responds to reports of anti-social behaviour day and night.

Salix Chief Exec Lee Sugden
Lee Sugden, chief executive at Salix Homes, said: “Following the success of our inaugural Tweetathon last year, we are bringing it back by popular demand and I’m looking forward to joining our 1st Response Team and giving the public an insight into the huge array of issues and incidents our dedicated officers have to deal with on a nightly basis.

“Housing Day is a fantastic national initiative which gives a platform to the housing sector, so this is the perfect opportunity to highlight the work of our 1st Response Team, which in an average shift, deals with around 2,500 calls as well as carries our regular patrols of Salford and assists the emergency services.”

Housing Day, now in its third year, takes place on Wednesday, 18 November, and the 12-hour Salix Homes Tweetathon will kickstart proceedings running from 6pm on Tuesday, 17 November to 6am on Wednesday, 18 November.
