Salford Girl Guides treated to pamper session at college salon

A lucky group of Salford Girl Guides were treated to a special pamper session last week, courtesy of the Hair & Beauty students at Salford City College’s City Skills Sixth Form Centre. The young clients were from the Second Swinton St Peter’s Girl Guides, where City Skills Sixth Form Centre receptionist Dianne Pescott is the Guide Leader.

The Girls Guides were allowed to choose between getting a manicure from the Level 2 Beauty Therapy students, or a conditioning treatment and blow dry from the Level 1 Hairdressing students. All of the treatments done at the event formed part of the students’ assessments.

Twelve-year-old Madeline chose to have a hair conditioning treatment and blow dry as her pamper session. She said: “I was really exciting to come and have my hair done at the salon, as I’ve never had it styled professionally before! I enjoy going on trips with Guides as it’s nice to spend time with my friends and experience new things.”

Guide Leader Dianne commented: “The Guides have really enjoyed their pamper session at the College. I’ve previously brought my Brownies group in to do construction workshops, which they also loved. It’s a great way for our students to act as role models and show the diversity of education options the girls can go into later in life.”

Melissa Connet, Hair & Beauty Technician at City Skills Sixth Form Centre, said: “Having the Girl Guides at the salon provided the students with a great learning experience, as it required them to work with clients of a younger age than they are used to.

“The students really enjoy events like this as it gives them great industry experience, and hopefully some clients for the future- if the girls are happy with their treatments!”
