Plans lodged to turn former Chapel Street stationers into flats

Developers want to turn a derelict office building on Chapel Street in Salford into a new apartment block.

The George Ellis & Sons (Stationers) Ltd building at 52-60 Chapel Street has lain empty since 2009.

The four-storey building, which had a retail store on the ground floor, lies next door to the former Chapel Street Police Station, which was built in 1888 by Salford Borough Engineer Arthur Jacob.

Leicester-based real estate firm Sash World Trading Limited want to turn the building into 10 apartments over four floors, keeping the ground floor for a retail site.

Plans are in for a mix of one and two bed flats ranging from 642sq ft to 1,223sq ft.

Salford City Council are now considering the change of use application.
