Youth arrested and off-road bikes seized in Winton chase

Youths racing off-road and quad bikes around the Winton estate in Eccles have been arrested and their bikes seized.

Police received multiple calls at around 4.40pm on Wednesday 8 April of a gang of youths racing bikes around Winton Park and the Dover Street and Worsley Road areas.

Residents reported the riders speeding around the estate at up to 40mph, while some were spotted without helmets or protective gear.

There were also a number of near-miss accidents reported to police.

The MD902 Explorer police helicopter from NPAS Barton was drafted in for overhead support, while officers on scrambler bikes took to the streets to try to track down the group.

After around two hours searching the roads around the park, one male youth was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, while three others were given 12 month anti-social driving warnings under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.

Police also seized two off-road motorbikes and a quad bike.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101.
