Salford schoolboy donates bedding for homeless to Narrowgate night shelter

Ethan Evans, the Salford schoolboy who has managed to raise £15,000 through fundraising events despite his own health problems, has generously donated new quilts and pillows to the Narrowgate homeless shelter in Salford.

Ethan, 13, along with his grandfather Edwin Green, called in at the shelter on Churchill Way to present the bedding to Martin Crowhurst the project manager.

Ed told SalfordOnline.com: “We had a tour of the facility and he was shocked at how society can leave so many behind and he saw that they had 30 beds for people who have fallen on hard times.

“He was also elated at the small difference he will be able to make with the six new quilts and 12 new pillows we handed over.

“I am very proud of this young man who as a big heart and who cares about those that need a bit of help now and again and I hope he continues to help others for many years to come.”

Martin Crowhurst told us: “I think it is fantastic what this young man has done, taking time from his own struggles to help the less fortunate.

“Ethan contacted us a while back and then turned up with the bedding which we are really grateful to receive,” said Martin.

“I can’t thank this young man enogh for what he has done us with this gesture.

“We have 30 beds which are all occupied throughout the year which is a sad reflection on the world we are living in.

“We provide our users with a bed for the night, a breakfast and a hot supper and we will be open all throughout the Christmas and New Year period.”

Narowgate provides emergency overnight accomodation through referral agencies for the homeless in and around Salford and Greater Manchester.
