SalfordOnline.com’s mega Christmas ticket giveaway for the upcoming The Sound of Music at The Lowry has closed and our two lucky winners chosen.
Each wins a family ticket for four to the epic musical, which stars BBC’s The Voice finalist Lucy O’Byrne and runs from Monday 14 December 2015 to Saturday 2 January 2016.
The week-long competition saw over 200 entries from keen theatre-goers across Salford, from Worsley, Winton, Eccles, Swinton, Broughton, Irlam, Cadishead and beyond. It was also shared over 1,000 times across social media.
Yvonne Shaw from Little Hulton is our first winner.
Yvonne entered the competition, she tells us, because: “I’ve always wanted to go and see a Christmas show at The Lowry but I’ve never had the opportunity before. I read SalfordOnline.com regularly and saw the competition and thought, ‘Why not?'”
“I’ll be taking my partner Andrew and my two children, age 17 and 22. I’m really looking forward to it and thanks to SalfordOnline.com.”
The lavish new retelling of the classic story also stars award-winning actor and TV heart-throb Gray O’Brien who plays the dashing Captain von Trapp.
Based on Baroness Maria von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography, The Sound Of Music tells the true story of the world-famous singing family, from their romantic beginnings and search for happiness, to their thrilling escape to freedom as their beloved Austria becomes part of the Third Reich at the start of the Second World War.
Our second winner is Karen Bird, from Salford. She told us the win would “really make my Christmas”.
She said: “I am delighted and still can’t believe that I have won, I never win anything, not even a raffle.
“I shall be taking my mother, my 16-year-old son Benjamin and my good friend Stephen.
“I really love musicals and can’t wait to see the show. In fact today I have put up my Christmas tree and I am sat here watching the Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire film Holiday Inn, getting in the festive mood nice and early.
“I am over the moon and many, many thanks once again to SalfordOnline.com.”
The Sound of Music features some of the world’s most memorable songs, including ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favorite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, ‘So Long, Farewell’ and of course, the title song, ‘The Sound of Music’.
