Kick-start Christmas this Saturday 5 December by joining in all or part of the Salford Community Leisure 12-hour marathon ‘Carolathon’, taking place from 8am to 8pm at ASDA, Wellington Road, Swinton.
“I’ve no idea how many carols we can get through in half a day,” exclaimed organiser Tina Parsons, development officer at Salford Community Leisure, “but it will be interesting to see which are the most requested ones! And we’ll be announcing Salford’s top 10 favourites following the event.”
Friends of the Salford Arts Centre are hoping for donations to raise money for their creative arts and wellbeing programmes – but all are welcome to come and listen or join in.
“We’ll be happy to welcome anyone who wants to join us in what can best be described as a 12-hour evolving ensemble,” says Tina.
“The aim is for non-stop carols and the carollers have been practicing for some weeks to ensure they don’t run out of steam! Last year’s efforts raised £2,000 for the Centre and we are hopeful to double that figure with the event this year.”
Richard Milton, Salford Community Leisure’s Head of the Music and Performing Arts Service, comments,
“Many young people in Salford, as in other parts of the country, have untapped potential and can achieve extraordinary things. We hope to nurture those talents and inspire a new-found confidence in all who wish to express themselves.
At Salford Arts Centre we run a range of groups for all ages and genres, from bands and orchestras to choirs and steel pan bands! Professional tutors work with our members so they grow in confidence and build self-esteem.”
