Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was shot in the leg in Cheetham Hill.
At around 8.10pm on Wednesday 2 December 2015, police found an empty vehicle with the engine running on Halliwell Lane, Cheetham Hill.
Further enquiries resulted in officers locating a 29-year-old man at Royal Oldham Hospital with a single gunshot wound to his thigh.
Armed officers attended and conducted a hospital watch until the victim was discharged into police custody.
Officers are now appealing to the public to come forward with any information which may assist the investigation.
Detective Inspector Chris Flint said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen something significant to come forward and contact police.
“If you were in the area of Halliwell Lane, Cheetham Hill, last night and saw anything suspicious, or perhaps saw this man arrive at Royal Oldham Hospital with a gunshot wound, call us.
“I would also like to stress that we believe this was a targeted attack, an attack in isolation, and that there is no wider threat to the wider public.
“Obviously this kind of incident will cause some concern amongst the local community, but I would like to reassure them that we will make changes to the patrol plan for the area to ensure more officers are in the area than would normally be.”
Police are anxious to say that this has no known links to the recent shootings in Salford.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3925 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
