A man has died after being hit by a train in Eccles.
Police and ambulances were called to Eccles railway station shortly after 10pm on Saturday 5 December to reports that a man had been struck by a train.
The 31-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
No-one else was reported injured in the tragedy, which caused rail delays across the network.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police (BTP) said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
The man’s next of kin have been informed and a case file will now be prepared for the Police Coroner’s Office.
In a statement, a spokesman for BTP said: “We were called to Eccles station at 10.03pm on Saturday 5 December to reports of a person being struck by a train.
“Colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service also attended, and a 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
He added: “The man’s family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
