CCTV released after city centre assault


Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was knocked unconscious on St Peters Square in the city centre.

At around 3.15am on Monday 6 April 2015, a man was walking in St Peters Square when he was punched to the face, causing him to fall and lose consciousness.

Whilst on the ground, the offender then kicked and stamped on the victim’s head.

The victim was treated for serious head injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Police have now issued CCTV of the incident and appealing for people to come forward with information.

The offender is described as a mixed race man, approximately mid 20s, with short shaven dark hair with facial stubble, stocky build, approximately 6ft tall wearing a white shirt and black jeans.

Detective Constable Christian Avery of North Manchester division said: “This was a vicious and potentially life-threatening attack in which a man knocked another person unconscious. While the victim lay helpless on the ground he suffered a sustained attack, where the offender kicked and stamped on head then left him lying on the street.

“Thankfully, the man is recovering, but I want to catch whoever did this as soon as possible. I am urging anyone who witnessed the attack or recognises the person in the images to come forward and speak to us.”
