A 55-year-old man was hospitalised in a suspected assault in Eccles.
Police were called to Chapel Street in Patricroft at 2.55am on Saturday 5 December to reports that a man had been assaulted.
Officers found a 55-year-old man with serious head injuries.
He was transferred to Salford Royal hospital were he underwent surgery.
His condition at present is not known.
No arrests have been made and police enquiries are continuing.
