Man sentenced to 9 years in prison for three counts of rape

A man who raped a woman numerous times has been jailed.

Joseph Doyle, 33, of Rushcroft Court, Blackley was today, Friday 11 December 2015, sentenced at Manchester Crown Square to 9 years in prison and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life after being found guilty of three counts of rape.

In the early hours of Monday 16 February 2015, Doyle picked a woman up in his car on Derby Street, Cheetham Hill and drove to a nearby car park where he threatened to rob her.

When the woman told him she didn’t have any money, he told her that in that case he was going to rape her. Doyle threatened to kill the woman if she tried to resist him or attempted to run.

He raped her a number of times, at one point remarking “how long do you think I will get for raping you”, before she was able to escape the car and run away and ring the police.

Whilst the victim was on the phone to police, Doyle drove past her which enabled her to provide the registration of the car.

Doyle was arrested within minutes at a petrol station in Cheetham Hill.

Detective Constable Carla Deighton of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “Joseph Doyle knew exactly what he was going to do when he picked up his victim before driving her to an empty car park where he subjected her to a horrendous attack.

“I would like to pay tribute to the victim for the braveness she showed in escaping from such a terrifying situation and taking quick action to call the police.

“That phone call and the assistance she has given throughout the investigation has helped us to take a dangerous man off the streets and I hope the sentence passed here today will give her some closure.”
