A ‘Wicked’ Night at the Pendleton Christmas Cabaret

Last week saw the return of the infamous Christmas Cabaret at Salford City College’s Pendleton Sixth Form Centre. This year’s musical extravaganza, which was performed by the super-talented students from the Centre’s Performing Arts department, was a medley of songs from two famous shows.

The cleverly named ‘A Spoonful of Wickedness’ was a cabaret of two halves. The first act featured songs from the classic musical Mary Poppins, whilst the second act was made up of scenes from the hit show Wicked. To ensure that everyone in the audience left the performance in the festive spirit, the cabaret concluded with a beautiful rendition of ‘White Christmas’, sung by the whole cast- and a few audience members!

One of the audience members on the show’s opening night was Jo Concannon, who is a Work Related Learning Coordinator at The Canterbury Centre. She said: “My guests and I really enjoyed the show- so much talent on one stage. The Performing Arts department never lets us down, and I’m now looking forward to the next show!”

Peter Davis, a neighbour of Pendleton Sixth Form Centre, attended the show with his wife Joyce. He commented: “This was the first time I had been to one of the College’s shows, although my wife has seen quite a few. The standard of performance by these young people was excellent.”

Mr Davis added: “They put their heart and soul into their roles and they clearly enjoyed performing as much as we enjoyed watching and listening to them.”

“I am very proud of all our immensely talented Performing Arts staff and students,” said Andrea Murphy, Head of Centre at Pendleton Sixth Form Centre. “The shows are of a professional standard and all the more impressive for the relatively short rehearsal time, due to ongoing commitments to other productions within our Season.”
