Salford man charged with attempted murder after woman stabbed 17 times

A man from Higher Broughton in Salford has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was found with 17 stab wounds.

Antonio Francisco Neto, 45, of Buile Street has been remanded in custody.

Detectives say they are treating the horror attack as a “domestic incident”.

The 25-year-old victim suffered 17 knife wounds to her torso, hands and legs after the frenzied attack on Wednesday 16 December.

Police and ambulances rushed to Teignmouth Avenue in Collyhurst at 11.15pm on Wednesday after an abandoned 999 call alerted them to the situation.

The victim needed repeated surgeries for her wounds and is now in a stable condition in hospital.

Police cordoned off a house in Buile Street, Salford, at around 1am on Thursday 17 December, with police dogs patrolling the local area.

Officers remained outside the property until Thursday afternoon while they continued their investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Cunliffe of North Manchester division said: “We have a team of detectives investigating this incident and we have made an arrest.

“Fortunately, the woman is in a stable condition and she has been sat up in hospital talking to specially-trained officers, who are supporting her.”

Antonio Neto and is expected to appear before Salford and Manchester Magistrates Court on Saturday 19 December.
