Woman, 33, raped in ‘horrific and deeply traumatic’ attack on Salford canal path

Police have launched an investigation after a woman was raped on a canal tow path in Salford.

Her attacker is described as being a pale, white man, in his late 50’s with dark hair that was short and thinning.

He had dark eyebrows with stubble under his chin, of average build and was 5ft 5in to 5ft 6in tall, wearing black jeans and a long-sleeved dark top.

Between 1am and 2am on Sunday 12 April, the 33-year-old woman was walking up Worsley Road towards Winton from Liverpool Road in Eccles when a car stopped and the driver offered her a lift.

She got into the car before it stopped on Hall Bank, a small and secluded road next to the Bridgewater Canal.

She was told to get out before she was raped on the canal tow path.

The man then drove off, leaving the woman at the scene.

Detective Inspector Benjamin Hart said: “This was a horrific attack on a lone woman which has been deeply traumatic for her.

“We have a team of dedicated detectives working on this case who are pursuing numerous lines of enquiry to identify the person responsible.

“However, we need the support from anyone who was in and around the area at that time to make contact with us.

“If you were around the Hall Bank or Worsley Road area between 12.30am and 2am on Sunday 12 April 2015, I would like to speak with you regarding what you may have seen or heard.”

The investigation team can be contacted directly on 0161 856 5097 or information provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
