New Year’s Eve will go with a bang in Manchester

Manchester’s Christmas season will come to a spectacular end with an incredible fireworks display in Albert Square.

Last year, thousands of people braved the winter cold to bring in the New Year in style and this year’s display is set to surpass anything the event has seen before.

Revellers are invited to the family-friendly, alcohol free countdown to 2015 from 10pm, Thursday 31 December.

The event will be held in the shadow of the iconic Manchester Town Hall on Albert Square and a big screen will carry the all-important countdown to midnight – with the fireworks release from the roof of the iconic building at midnight.

To help the crowds get home, Metrolink is running a Friday service with last trams not leaving the city centre until 1am and some special bus services running until 4am. See the Transport for Greater Manchester website for more details: www.tfgm.com

Cllr Pat Karney, Manchester City Council’s city centre spokesperson, said: “We couldn’t let New Year’s Eve go by without another famous Manchester fireworks display. The celebration is firmly on the calendar of Mancunians and the city has joined the global countdown with the likes of Sydney and New York.

“This year’s fireworks display will top anything we’ve seen before – so bring the family along to Albert Square for the best show in town!”
