Could you give a loving pup, cat or rabbit a caring new home?
Animals in Distress in Irlam, which battled through a virus outbreak earlier this year to continue rescuing hundreds of animals, needs your help.
Christmas is traditionally a time when families adopt new furry friends.
The post-New Year period is very difficult for the pets left behind.
There’s a variety of animals looking for loving families: kittens, rats, rabbits, a white ferret called Freda, even a pair of Degus called Shadow and Storm.
Degus are becoming more popular as pets: these small Chilean rodents, about the size of a Chinchilla, are very sociable and clean, but require lots of exercise and unlike most rodents are not nocturnal.

Over the years the sanctuary has rehomed thousands of animals from Shetland ponies to pigs, lizards to snakes, and many more.
Mel Dunn, manager at Animals in Distress, warned that taking on a pet is a big responsibility, not to be taken lightly.
“These animals need lots of time and company.
“If you get one for a child, an adult should oversee what is going on, for example caring for teeth, nails, cleaning, feeding, exercise and general heath.
“Please don’t take because you feel sorry for them or they are cute this will inevitably end up with problems.”
