David Bowie dead: Legendary rocker dies age 69


David Bowie has died at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer, his management have confirmed.

A statement on the artist’s social media accounts read: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.

“While many of you will share in this los, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

The influential singer-songwriter had just released his 25th album Blackstar on January 8, which was his birthday.

He is known for his huge body of work across a 40 year career in glam rock, art rock, soul, dance, punk, pop and electronica.

Duncan Jones, Bowie’s film director son, said the news was “Sad but true” and tweeted “love to all”.

David Cameron tweeted that Bowie was a “Pop genius and master of invention” while fans of all ages flooded social media with tributes.
