At around 11.45am on Monday 11 January police and paramedics were called to the junction of Lower Broughton Road and Frederick Road to reports of a serious assault.

Outside The Junction Premier Food and Wine Store, opposite the Prince of Wales pub, they found a 27-year-old man with severe head injuries.

He was taken to Salford Royal hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

One young offender was seen riding away from the scene on a pedal bike.

Police cordoned off the immediate crime scene while they conducted their enquiries.

A fast-moving investigation is ongoing this afternoon.

Officers have not linked the attack to any other instances of violence in Salford.
