Police have closed a section of the clockwise M62 motorway at Junction 18 after a four-vehicle pile up.
One SalfordOnline.com reader, who does not wish to be named, said: “I was driving past and you could see a car smashed into the central reservation.
“It looked pretty bad from where I was sitting.
“The red lorry had its front window broken in and there was a white van and another white lorry behind it which appear to have gone into the back of the lorry.
“There was debris all over the carriageway with police and ambulances there too.”
The accident happened around 400 yards past the Junction 18 turn-off.
The Highways Agency is reporting delays of around 40 minutes clockwise on the M60 between Junction 15 for the Swinton interchange and the M61, and Junction 17 for Prestwich.
The agency says traffic conditions are expected to return to normal by around 3.45pm this afternoon, Wednesday 13 January.
The North West Motorway Police are tweeting from the scene.
They advise drivers should try to leave the M62 before Junction 18.

Because of damage to the central reservation, police are also putting lane closures in place on the M62 westbound between Junction 19 and 18.
The hard shoulder and lanes 1 and 2 are now closed while police clear the accident.
