Salford’s oldest woman? 103 not out for yoga-loving Eva

A 103-year-old is celebrating becoming one of Salford’s oldest women.

Family and friends joined Eva Kay at Newlands care home in Salford for her birthday celebrations and a party treat this week.

The last surviving member of her siblings, Eva has two daughters, Sandra Davies and Jean Cohen, who joined her at the party along with one of her four granddaughters, Suzy Rubenstein.

Eva, whose family originated in Poland, has lived in the area since she was a little girl.

Born in 1913 she has lived through two World Wars and seen 23 Prime Ministers come and go.

Eva puts her longevity down to an enthusiasm for life, and still regularly takes part in yoga sessions, choir lessons, singing and music at the Manchester Jewish Community Care’s Nicky Alliance Centre.

She has been a regular since joining the arts and entertainment group 10 years ago at the grand old age of 93.

Michelle Weisman, chief executive at the Nicky Alliance Centre, said: “Eva is an enthusiastic member and regularly attends the centre twice a week. We are delighted to be celebrating with her on this very special occasion.”
