Pictures released of man who died in tent fire


Police investigating the murder of a man in Salford have released two images of him.

At around 1.20am on Wednesday 20 January 2016, police were called to Irwell Street in Ordsall following reports that a tent located under a railway bridge was on fire.

When Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire, a man’s body was discovered in the tent.
The man has been identified as 23-year-old Daniel Smith. Specialist officers are now providing support to his family.

A Home Office post-mortem examination concluded that Daniel died from multiple injuries.

Detective Constable Derek Nellany, who is acting as the family liaison officer for Daniel Smith’s family, said: “We are continuing to work closely with Daniel’s family to try and find out exactly what happened to him.
“Having been to see them today, they are understandably devastated and our thoughts continue to be with them at this tough time.”
