Salfordians urged to come together and shape GP services

Salford residents are encouraged to attend the first ever city wide Patient Participation Group (PPG) meeting, taking place on Monday 1 February 2016 at Buile Hill Park Hall.

All GP Practices in Salford are expected to have a PPG, which is typically made up of patients, practice managers and GPs. The group comes together and supports the practice to meet the needs of local people by making sure their practice puts both the patient and improving health at the heart of everything that they do.

Up until now each Salford practice has worked in isolation, tackling issues at a local level, this will be the first time that all neighbourhoods will come together and share their experiences and ideas, as well as finding ways to work together towards common goals.

The event, which is organised by Salford Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and with the support of the Vancouver Group, a patient group based in Salford aims to give Salford PPG members an opportunity to get an update on the Eccles Together project. Eccles Together, as part of ‘Salford Health Matters’, sees GP practice staff and patients coming together to work on improvement projects and test new ideas. Attendees will also have an opportunity to get involved in workshops around such topics as getting a group started, overcoming barriers and how money should be allocated.

The event will be held at Buile Hill Park, between 1.30 and 3.30pm with a networking lunch provided from 12.30pm, and attendance is free for any Salford PPG member or any resident wanting to join their local PPG.

Neil Turton, Salford CCG’s practice manager neighbourhood lead for Eccles and chief executive of Salford Health Matters said:

“We work hard every day in general practice to provide the best service for our patients, and it is essential that we involve our patients so we can do a better job.

“With the staff being so busy, our patients can give us a valuable view we may never get to see. Therefore PPGs are an excellent way to get involved in your practice.”

To join your local PPG look out for the patient notice boards or posters in the waiting room, or ask at the reception desk at your practice if you would like more information.

Any resident wanting to attend the event can contact Sandra Lindsay at Salford CCG on 0161 212 6278 or email sandra.lindsay1@nhs.net.
