GMP response to State of Policing Report

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “It is extremely positive that GMP has been rated as good across the board for the service it provides for people. This was a rigorous inspection process that covered three areas effectiveness, efficiency, and legitimacy.

“The Force was found to be good at keeping people safe, reducing crime, protecting vulnerable people with excellent examples of local engagement with communities. It has also been highlighted as ‘well-led’ with a clear understanding of capacity and capability at all levels.

“This is a significant achievement and particularly when we are developing a new approach to policing. I am committed to continue transforming policing in Greater Manchester so that we are able to provide the best possible service in the future.

“We face substantial challenges from serious and organised crime and new areas of criminality that can be incredibly complex including human trafficking and cyber-crime. The changes we are making continue our commitment to neighbourhood policing and working with other agencies to tackle problems.

“We have been working with the London School of Economics who have been assessing the complexity of policing across the country. It is important that the work has identified that policing Greater Manchester is a very high challenge, higher than the national average. The demands are significant across levels of crime, antisocial behaviour and emergency and priority calls.

“The support of partner agencies and the people of Greater Manchester have been crucial to keeping the streets safe. The developments taking place have been recognised for being positive and we have a firm foundation for the future.

“All of this is only possible with the hard work and dedication of the officers and staff of GMP. They make a difference to communities every day and have continued to tackle crime and bring offenders to justice.”
