Eccles Metrolink suspended after motorbike and car crash

All Eccles-bound services on the Metrolink were halted at Weaste this morning after a motorbike skidded onto tram lines throwing off two riders.

But workers ran out of nearby local businesses to administer first aid.

Two district nurses, an off duty fireman and off duty doctor treated the patients until a rapid response ambulance arrived.

The accident happened at around 8.30am on Tuesday 8 March, near Turnpike House on Eccles New Road.

The Metrolink closure caused rush-hour delays for hundreds travelling on the Metrolink after lines were suspended in both directions.

Two riders on a black motorbike were thrown from their vehicle when they skidded to avoid a red Vauxhall Astra.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a female passenger sitting up in the road being treated by paramedics.

The Manchester-bound Metrolink closure was lifted at 8.50am.
