Over 500 volunteers spruce up Salford

Over 540 proud Salfordians shifted three and a half tonnes of litter to give the city a right royal clean up last weekend.

Forty different groups from local schools to friends groups, took to the city’s streets, parks and railways stations as part of the national initiative Clean for the Queen – aiming to tidy up Britain ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday in April.

Salford City Council staff collected 260 bags of litter which – with some bulky items added in – weighed in at a whopping three and a half tonnes.

Councillor Gena Merrett, executive lead member for housing and environment, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who turned out to clean up Salford. They collected an incredible amount of litter and have made a real difference to their communities. I hope people respect all this hard work and keep Salford looking clean and tidy.”
