Hair we grow? Salford chef puts 12 month charity bid on the menu

Salford chef Scott Tyldesley, 28, is to grow his hair and beard for a full 12 months in aid of charity.

The father of three, dad to Olivia, 7, Ruby, 4, and Daisy, 3, had his last trip to the barbers on New Year’s Eve 2015.

Now he’s a quarter of the way through his self-imposed challenge.

Scott, who lives in Irlam but grew up around Swinton, wants to raise money for Make-A-Wish Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support – both causes that are close to his heart.

He told SalfordOnline.com: “It will be tough.

“The most I’ve gone without shaving is one month and I found that really hard and my face itched like mad so I don’t know how I’ll cope with a year, I honestly don’t.

“I usually go to the barbers every fortnight, so four months in it’s really starting to annoy me!”

The former Moorside High School pupil hopes to raise £2,000 for the two charities.

As a chef he has worked in the kitchens at Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry for the past seven years.

The plan was originally to do a skydive to raise money, but Scott suffered a back injury two years ago that put and end to that idea.

So he landed on the scheme of growing his hair as a bit of harmless fun.

Speaking about his family’s reaction, Scott said: “They have definitely been really supportive of me doing it for charity, but they’re taking their opportunity to wind me up and make jokes about my different look.

“They are finding the fact I have to wear two hair nets at work especially funny.”

Now almost five months into growing his hair and beard, Scott bears quite a different look to January.
