A man who sexually assaulted a vulnerable woman he cared for in Salford has been jailed for 12 months.
In May 2014 Darren Gresty sexually assaulted to woman, who is in her 50s and has learning difficulties, at her home in Salford
At Manchester Crown Court Gresty, 54, of Mason Street, Horwich, admitted sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison and given a 10-year order to sign the Sex Offenders Register.
Gresty was employed as the woman’s carer and helped prepare her meals.
Pc Lyndsey Roberts, from the Adult Safeguarding Unit, said: “Not only does the victim not have the capacity to consent to sexual activity, she does not understand what it is, and therefore did not understand what Darren Gresty was doing to her or why.
“He took advantage of this woman in the most appalling way, in full knowledge of her vulnerability and that makes these offences all the more appalling.
“What is also galling is that he then, quite incredulously, went about his normal duties, making her tea, as if nothing had happened.
“The only saving grace is that he has faced up to what he has done.
“The Adult Safeguarding Unit works closely with victims and partner agencies to bring those who prey on the most vulnerable members of our community to justice and if anyone has any concerns about such offending I would encourage them to contact us in complete confidence.”
